Learn about bicycling in your community and beyond by participating in this year's Beach Cities Read featuring the book Bicycle Diaries by David Byrne. Help the environment by donating or swapping gently used bicycles at the Hermosa Beach Library on Earth Day and/or biking to school on May 10.

Through a partnership with Redondo Beach Public Library, Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach Public Libraries of the County of Los Angeles Public Library, and Torrance Public Library.

Saturday, 4/22 - Beach Cities Read Booth at the City of Manhattan Beach’s Earth Day Celebration, 11 AM - 4 PM

Saturday, 4/29 - 125th Birthday Celebration of the City of Redondo Beach at Ruby's, 10 AM - 1:30 PM - Stop by the library booth for the opportunity to win bike-related prizes

Saturday, 4/29 - Saturday Cinema: Premium Rush at Southeast Library (Torrance), 1 PM - When a New York City bicycle messenger picks up an envelope at Columbia University, a dirty cop becomes desperate to get his hands on it and pursues the cyclist throughout the city. Rated PG-13 for some violence, intense action sequences and language. 

Saturday, 4/29 - Bike Rally and Birthday Party at Manhattan Beach Library, 2 PM - 4 PM - Celebrate two years in the new library with a bicycling skills course for kids (Pre-K to 2nd grade), live 1980s music, specialty bikes, and more! Bike education and helmet checks courtesy of Beach Cities Cycling Club and the South Bay Bicycle Coalition.

Wednesday, 5/3 - Bike to School Day for Manhattan Beach Middle School students.

Thursday, 5/4 - TEDxRedondoBeach: Wheels of Change at Redondo Beach Main Library, 6 PM - 9 PM - Reservations required

Friday, 5/5 - MākMō Mobile Makerspace at Hermosa Beach Library, 3:30 PM - Kids - Make an LED license plate for your bike and experiment with moving bicycle gears made from K’NEX.

Wednesday, 5/10 - Author and Cyclist Phil Gaimon at Katy Geissert Civic Center Library (Torrance), 7 PM - Former American professional road racing cyclist and anti-doping advocate who last rode for UCI World Tour, Phil “Cookie Monster” Gaimon shares his experiences as a cyclist, author, and entrepreneur. A noted blogger, Gaimon has written for VeloNews and Bicycling and has authored Pro Cycling on $10 and Ask a Pro. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Wednesday, 5/10 - Bike to School Day - Students are encouraged to ride their bike to school; schools register here to be counted.

Saturday, 5/13 - Bicycle 101 at Henderson Library (Torrance), 11 AM - Get back in the bike seat! Learn how to choose the right bike, where to ride, how to stay safe, and other tips for returning or beginning adult cyclists. Presented by Safety Cycle Bicycle Shop.

Saturday, 5/13 (New Date) - All About Electric Bikes at Walteria Library (Torrance), 11 AM - Join Beth Black from Pedego Electric Bikes to learn about this new and fascinating incarnation of the bicycle, which works under both human and battery power.

Monday, 5/15 - Bike to Work Week Kick-off at Redondo Beach Main Library, 3 PM - 5 PM - Beach Cities Transit will present a demonstration on how to put your bike on a bus. Prizes for all in attendance
