Community Service Week

Adopted by the State Legislature in 2001, the first César E. Chávez Day in the State of California was celebrated in recognition of César Chávez as an American hero - a leader who represented the values of hard work, democracy, justice, education, service to others, family, and respect as president of the United Farm Workers of America, AFL-CIO.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors declared the first César E. Chávez Community Service Week, March 25-31,2002. This year César E. Chávez Community Service Week will be observed from March 26-30, 2012 with a number of celebrations and activities planned in tribute to César Chávez's core values, service to others and the welfare of working families.
