Lawndale Library Celebrates Grand Opening

The new Lawndale Library, 14615 Burin Avenue, Lawndale celebrates its grand opening on Wednesday, March 18 at 5:30 p.m. with music and entertainment for the entire family to enjoy, provided by One World Rhythm. Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley- is scheduled to attend this special ribbon cutting ceremony.

The Lawndale Library broke ground August 6, 2007 on a new 17,360 square foot library to replace the former 3,203 square foot facility. The library has plenty of space for reading, an expanded computer training room and self-checkout stations. An expansive Children’s Area will serve young people from preschool through middle school.

A distinguishing feature of the new library is an art glass installation created by artist Anne Marie Karlsen. The kaleidoscopic glass patterns integrate historical and contemporary photographs of the city of Lawndale and the surrounding area. The large-scale – 20 feet high by 15 feet wide - multi-colored glass is part of the building\\’s façade facing Burin Avenue and has a dominant presence inside as well.

The new library was made possible through a partnership between the County of Los Angeles and the City of Lawndale and included funding from the California Reading and Literacy Improvement and Public Library Construction and Renovation Bond Act of 2000.

The Lawndale Library is part of the County of Los Angeles Public Library. For additional information, please call (562) 940-8415.
