History
Established in 1938 as the Keystone Branch, the library merged with
the Carson Branch in 1959. The present building was opened in 1972
and serves 19.24 square miles.
Collection
The current collection totals 225,346. This collection is comprised
of 10,814 audio recordings; 14,305 video cassettes; 321 magazine
and newspaper subscriptions; large print books; environmental
impact reports; pamphlets; college catalogs and other special materials
such as telephone directories, microforms, topographic and road maps,
and local history files. In addition to our English language collection,
we also have adult and children's books in Chinese, Japanese, Korean,
Spanish, Tagalog and Vietnamese and videos in Tagalog and Spanish. The
Carson Regional Library is also a selective
government depository for federal and
state documents.

Services available to customers are public access Internet computers; CD-ROM
workstations (adult and children); Online Public Access Catalogs;
coin-operated typewriter; coin-operated copiers; public meeting
room (available on a rental basis); Government Services computer;
Homework Center;
Adult Literacy Center; pre-school
storyhours; Reader's Advisory Service.
Facilities
The library, with an area of 29,112 square feet, is wheelchair accessible
and features the following major areas: adult reading room; children's
area; young adult area; circulation desk; meeting room with a capacity
of 100 and ample parking.

Carson Online contains over 200 pages of information about the city, including the city's history, its citizens, schools, churches, shopping, dining, city hall, upcoming events, tourist attractions, projects in the planning stages (such as the MetroMall), community groups... you name it. There are special sections (mini-sites) for Carson High School (and the Colts), for the South Bay Pavilion, and for the Carson Chamber of Commerce. There is also information about celebrities who have lived in Carson (such as Brandy and Forest Whitaker), and even a page about the Goodyear Blimp (which is based in Carson).
