History
The Hawaiian Gardens Library was founded in 1974 with a bookmobile serving the community. The next site for the library was at 12134 Tilbury Street (the former city hall); it served the community from 1979 until December 1987. On January 19, 1988, the library was relocated to a 2,000 square foot building at the present location in the Hawaiian Gardens Town Center. The official dedication was held on March 9, 1988. In 1989, the facility was expanded to 4,000 square feet. An open house, with City and County dignitaries attending, was held on October 18, 1989.

Collection
The library's collection consists of 42,973 books, 3,555 video recordings, 2,827 audio recordings and 50 magazine and newspaper subscriptions. The library offers materials in English, Spanish and Chinese.

Services
Services available are basic reference services, public access Internet computers and children's programming. The online library catalogs provide access to the entire County Library collection and to online reference databases. A coin-operated photocopier is available for the public.

Facilities
The 4,000 square foot building is located on Carson Street and Norwalk Boulevard in the Hawaiian Gardens Town Center. The children's area is dedicated to the memory of Helen Mork, devoted teacher and library volunteer. There is a separate magazine and newspaper reading section.
