History
The La Puente Public Library began its long career in a local schoolhouse
in September 1913. It resided in a school, a bank, and the Puente Mercantile
Building until 1930. The library then moved to larger quarters several times
over the next 38 years until it reached its present location in the La Puente
Civic Center in November 1968.
Collection
The library's collection totals approximately 94,130 volumes. The collection
includes Spanish and Vietnamese language material, 83 magazine and
newspaper subscriptions, 3,534 audio recordings, and 7,046 videocassettes.
The library features a strong consumer health collection to better
serve the clients of the County Health Center nearby.
Services
The library offers basic reference services, children's programs, a
Homework Center, coin-operated
typewriters, and a coin-operated copy machine. A meeting room is available
on a rental basis.
Facilities
The library building is approximately 10,400 square feet, featuring an adult
section, a children's area, a periodical area, and a meeting room with a
seating capacity of 45.
