History
The first library in Lawndale was opened December 26, 1913 at the corner of Railroad Ave. and Market St. (Now Hawthorne Blvd. and 147th St.). It became one of the first branches of the Los Angeles County Public Library. The Lawndale library was relocated several times before it moved to its present location on March 23, 1957.

Collection
The current collection contains over 52,870 books, 45 magazine and newspaper subscriptions, 2,150 audiocassettes and 4,800 videocassettes. Special collections include Spanish and Vietnamese books; Chinese books, videos and audiocassettes; local college catalogs; local telephone directories and pamphlets.

Services
The Lawndale Library offers a full range of services including general reference assistance, online library catalogs that provide access to the entire County Library collection and to online reference databases, public access Internet computers, and childrenšs programs. Other available services include a coin operated photocopy machine and book, DVD and video rental collections sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Facilities
