Grand Opening Celebration

The City of Malibu and County of Los Angeles invited the entire Malibu community to join them at a Grand Opening celebration to mark the completion of the $6 million renovation of the Malibu Community Library on Sunday, April 22, 2012.

The celebration featured children's activities, interactive exhibits, art projects, local authors, and storytime.

The new sustainable, LEED-certified library has been redesigned to represent Malibu's sand, sea and sun culture with features such as:

• A replica of the Adamson House tile rug in the main lobby and a photographic exhibit featuring historical images of the area
• A remodeled Community Room celebrating Malibu's equestrian culture
• The new Children's area featuring a marine life motif, including an 8' by 14' porcelain tile art piece designed by artist Christine Nguyen
• A replica of a lighthouse which has been transformed into a family restroom
• A Teen area that embraces Malibu's surf culture

Visitors can also traverse under a pier to the new outdoor reading patio, amphitheater and a windsail structure with views of Legacy Park located directly across Civic Center Way.

The library project was designed by the architectural firm of LPA, Inc. and funded by revenue generated from local property taxes.
