Ruth E. Hiebert

Ruth had a distinguished twenty-five year career as an elementary school teacher. Her longest teaching assignment was at Soledad Elementary School in the Sulphur Springs School District from 1970-1984. She was a recipient of the following awards - the Award for Innovative Development from the California Teachers Association in 1974, the California's Outstanding Teacher of the Year in 1974, Outstanding Citizen of the Year by the California Parents and Teachers Association in 1980, and the Santa Clarita Valley Reading Council Literary Award in 1986. Ruth was also a Board member of the Santa Clarita Valley Scholarship Society and was responsible for establishing scholarships through the Lester and Ruth Hiebert Scholarship Foundation.

Ruth held the position of President of the Friends of the Libraries of the Santa Clarita Valley for two terms: 1986-1988 and 1993-1994. In addition, she was a Board member of the North Regional Library Council, appointed by Supervisor Michael Antonovich from 1986-1994. As President of the Friends of the Libraries, Ruth spearheaded fund raising activities and programs to support and benefit the three local community libraries.

The parenting collection has been named in honor of Ruth E. Hiebert, wife, mother, teacher, and community leader in recognition of her outstanding achievements and her years of support to the Valencia Library and the Santa Clarita Valley community.
