History
The Valencia Library was officially dedicated on May 24, 1972 and opened with a collection totaling 50,000 volumes. The library continued to serve the residents of the Santa Clarita Valley until the devastating January 1994 Northridge earthquake. Closed for extensive repairs, the library was completely remodeled and reopened in November 1994 with a collection totaling 210,000 volumes.

Collection
The library's current collection includes 280,617 books; 17,300 audio recordings; 16,977 video recordings; 25,000 government publications; 309 magazine and newspaper subscriptions; other special materials such as telephone directories, microforms, topographic maps, local history information and; a parenting collection dedicated to Ruth E. Hiebert.

Services
Services available to customers include an On-line Public Access Catalog; public access Internet computers; adult and children's programs; coin-operated typewriters and copiers; Federal and State depository collections; a Literacy Center and a public meeting room (available on a rental basis).

Special Programming:
Valencia Book Group meets the first Thursday of each month from 7-9 p.m. in the library's meeting room. Newcomers always welcome!

Facilities
The library, with an area of 23,966 square feet, features the following major areas: an adult section; a separate children's area; a section devoted to audiovisual materials; a government publications area; a meeting room with a capacity of 165; and individual typing rooms.
