Baby & Toddler Early Literacy Skills: Phonological Awareness

Phonological Awareness (being able to hear and play with the smaller sounds in words) is one of six skills that will help prepare your child to learn to read.

To help your child develop this skill, look for:

  • books with rhyme and rhythm
  • books with animal sounds or other silly sounds
  • nursery rhymes and fingerplays
