Baby & Toddler Early Literacy Skills: Narrative Skills

Narrative Skills (being able to describe things and events and tell simple stories) is one of six skills that will help prepare your child to learn to read.

To help your child develop this skill, look for:

  • books that tell a cumulative or sequential story
  • books with repetition in the plot
  • wordless picture books
