American Indians and Religion

Historically American Indian religious practices varied greatly across the continent. From the 1870’s to 1934 the U.S. government outlawed traditional American Indian religious practices. When the ban was lifted there began a revival and a reworking of those practices within and beyond American Indian communities. As a result, today those practices and related issues are more diverse than ever. The following titles are a sampling of books available that reveal the variety of issues on and connected to American Indians and Religion."
