Fact Sheet

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is widely believed to be the virus that causes AIDS.

HIV The Ron Shipton HIV Information Center opened at the West Hollywood Library on April 10, 1989. All books, materials, and services are free to the community.

The purpose of the Ron Shipton HIV Information Center is:

  • To provide accurate, current, and accessible materials regarding education, etiology, prevention, transmission, epidemiology, treatment methods, and legal issues related to HIV-AIDS.

  • To make these resources accessible to the community in a friendly environment conducive to study and privacy.

  • To offer reference and readers' advisory service by expert library staff.
The HIV Center is a joint project of the County of Los Angeles Public Library and the City of West Hollywood.

The Ron Shipton HIV Information Center is designed to serve the educational needs of the community. The Center offers information from all sectors to keep all groups informed.
