You will also gain skills and knowledge that will help in your professional career and your personal life. Students can gain community service credit and valuable job experience.

Who Can Volunteer?

Anyone who has an interest in libraries and books, a concern for their community, or a passion for helping others can be a volunteer. There is no age requirement from children to tweens to teens to adults, baby boomers, grandparents and everyone in between! As long as you can accomplish the assigned activities, we welcome volunteers with a variety of different skills, interests and abilities.

What Can A Volunteer Do?

Since our volunteers come from many different backgrounds and have many different skills and experiences, there are many different volunteer opportunities. Here are a few examples:

Library Ambassador/Guide Greet customers, explain library procedures (such as getting a library card), assist with the use of copy machines and other library technology.
Library Materials Helper Help clean, straighten, stamp, and sort library materials (books, magazines, DVDs, etc.), arrange and clean displays, assist with filing, typing and light clerical.
Childrens Services Helper Promote and assist with childrens programming and story times, direct and out-reach to parents, assist with art activities.
Homework/Internet Helper Assist youth by providing academic support and help with computer software, train customers with basic Internet searches and printing.
Friends of the Library Join your local Friends of the Library group and help raise money and awareness for your local library through book sales, promoting library services in your community, and advocating for your library on local, state, and federal levels.

Other positions may be available at your local County Library.
