When is Older Americans Month?
Each year in May, we commemorate Older Americans Month (OAM) to encourage and recognize the countless contributions that older adults make to our communities across Los Angeles County and the entire nation. Older Americans Month also serves to raise awareness concerning elder abuse and neglect.
Every President since John F. Kennedy has issued a formal proclamation during or before the month of May asking that the entire nation pay tribute in some way to older persons in their communities for their time, experience, and talents.
What events will LA County Library host for Older Americans Month?
We have several in-person and virtual adult-oriented events throughout May to celebrate older Americans, and you’re invited!
On May 6 at Agoura Hills Library, have your own hands-on glass art experience by making a colorful suncatcher. On May 9 at Culver City Julian Dixon Library, join us for an afternoon of knitting where all skill levels are welcome. Finally, on May 11 at Lennox Library, join us as expert Joan Borgman shares her knowledge of container gardening. Participants will have the opportunity to make and take home their own herb and vegetable container garden!
And these are just a small sampling of all the great events we’re hosting for older Americans! Please see below for more details and registration info for these and other great events at your local LA County Library.
